These machines come in various sizes. Some are on tracks, some on wheels. These machines shred the stump into mulch with a high velocity cutting wheel with numerous carbide steel teeth.
How much does it cost?
Cost can vary depending on your location, and the stump size. Most companies offer free estimates. I have started estimating from texted photos. This helps me avoid unnecessary travel time which saves the customer money also. This is catching on, but sometimes it is necessary to go out to take a look. Get a couple of estimates unless you feel comfortable with the quoted price, and your service provider.
Should I call 811 to have my utility lines marked?
It’s recommended especially in city, and suburban area that may have a lot of buried lines. I have cut maybe 5-6 cable lines in my 15 year career. It happens. It takes an average of 3 business days to have this completed.
Should my service provider be insured?
Yes. Accidents do happen. It’s a piece of mind to know that your service provider is covered.
How long does the process take?
It depends on the job size. If you only have 3-4 medium size stumps 45 minutes to an hour if the provider has professional grade equipment. 1 stump may take as little as 10 minutes.
What should I expect when the job is completed?
You will find a pile of mulch where each stump was located. Most service providers leave it onsite to settle. Some will offer to haul it away for an additional fee.
What form of payment is accepted?
This will vary by service provider always ask in advance. I accept cash, checks, and most popular app payments. You will probably find that this is the norm.
